Norma M96 pricing
I have a gun in my collection I'm thinking selling or trading but am a little un-certain what it might be worth. Let me trow it out to you guys and see what you think. It's a Gustuf M96 re-built by Norma (correctly marked) for target use. The sights have been re-moved and it retained scope rings on which I put a Leatherwood ART. It has a blond stock w/thumbhole, squared off w/back cut front end. Stippled thumbhole area. Pistol grip style with Carl Gustuf and a bunch of other markings stamped onto it. It retains 96+% blueing, stock has been recently oiled, but, is in mint condition. The gun is chambered for 6.5X55, headspaces fine. Shoots M.O.A. off the hard rest w/Ingram 139 gr FMJ ammo. Darn good looking rifle. I couldn't find this style rifle in any of the books I have on Swedish Mausers so I am assuming it's some kind of commercial target gun,Any suggestions?SDH

I suggest that you take a look at the Swedish Commercial and Hunting Rifles forum at Gunboards.com. A couple of Swedish companies (Husqvarna, Stiga, and apparently Norma) took M96 actions and built commercial sporting or target rifles with them. Sometimes, as in WW2, military recievers were taken off the production line to produce a civilian rifle, or surplus recievers were purchased and used for this purpose. Husqvarna also commercially produced M96 rifles when the supply of FN M98 actions ran short. Further to that, many many surplus 6.5 rifles, either original or sporterized were used in Sweden.
If you ask on Gunboards, someone will surely be able to provide you with greater information on your rifle and probable cost. Laws regulating the number of longarms and handguns that Swedes can own has lead to a large number of firearms being collected by importers for the American market which has lowered their prices somewhat, though fine examples (i.e. good target rifles) will still command a several hundred dollars.
With Regards,
Frank
