First Enfield: Savage No.4 Mk.I

Hey guys. Just got in my first Enfield yesterday I purchased off GB. A Savage Enfield No4 MkI made in 1944. I am very pleased with my purchase as I love the look to her, the bore is in very good condition, and the action is ever so sweet! Cannot wait to take her shooting this weekend.

Looks nice but very, very frightening !!!!

A cocked rifle should only be seen when actually shooting (in several pics your rifle is cocked)

When closing the bolt, pull the trigger and the rifle won't cock.

I would also like to note the operation of the safety mechanism. The positions are full forward for safety disengaged and full rear for safety engaged. It shouldn't be sitting right in the middle like that. But it is a nice looking rifle all the same.

Thanks guys. Appreciate all the tips with this on the safety and bolt.

I treat every firearm as its loaded and I assure you this one wasn't. I cleared it several times and I also have no ammo for it currently.

Had a reaction to the cocked striker as well upon first viewing, but was going to let it pass. After seeing your post and thinking on it some, I'm glad you mentioned it.

Bear43's comment is very useful as well. It's not a good position for the saftey. If the catch is "floppy" check the safety spring retention screw forward. Otherwise it could be a worn detent of the spring itself.

It's a very honest, original rifle imported from Ankara, Turkey back to the USA several years ago by Century Arms. The sewn Turkish sling is still attached. Some also had sewn leather slings and the addition of a stacking bar at the front.

Thanks for the info on the sling and the travels of this rifle Wasn't sure if the sling was original or not.
