    Info on this 03-A3?

    Gentlemen:

I would appreciate any information or comments on an 03-A3 I picked up last year.

    The receiver is marked:

    US
    Remington
    Model 03-A3
    34749xx

with a small dot on the ledge, under the second "4" of the serial number.

    The barrel is marked:

    RA
(flaming bomb with a punch prick in the center of the bomb)
    2-43

There is a hood over the front sight.

The stock is a straight stock, stamped "FJA" on the left side, and serifed numbers on the right - 2016 on the butt, and 14 just past the front receiver bridge. Bolt is marked B.P. on the rear lug, and R at the root of the bolt handle.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

    (1) The bolt and the serial number match, thereby indicating that your rifle likely has its original barrel.

    (2) The prick punch mark beneath the serial number is a proof mark.

    (3) The "FJA" is the Ordnance inspection and acceptance stamp. "FJA" are the initials of Lt. Col. Frank J. Atwood, who was in charge of inspection over the Rochester (NY) Ordnance District in which Remington was located.

    (4) The "2016" and "14" may be rack numbers.

    (5) The "B.P." identifies your rifle's bolt sleeve as having been manufactured by the Bay Products Co. The bolt sleeve is a replacement and is not original to your rifle.

    (6) The "R" beneath the bolt handle identifies the bolt as having been made by Remington Arms. Although the bolt was made by Remington, it is probably not original to your rifle.

    Hope this helps.

    J.B.

4-digit number serrifed number on the butt is typical of Greek return rifles if located on right side near buttplate?
