Help!! To clean or not....Garand stock
I was digging through my Garand wood assemblage and notice some of it is slimy, some sticky and other pieces seem just plain dirty. Is there a proper process for cleaning this wood????
Any other comment???

Three options here...
1. Clean with Murphy's oil soap and hot water dry in sun, but keep turning it.
Apply BLO or Tung Oil
2. Use claen rag and Scott's Liquid Gold for furniture let dry (outside, the fluid has petroleum solvent) and again oil.
3. HOtest water you can stand and q1/2 cup of Spin-n-Span, clean the wood clean of all coatings, let dry and oil
USe #3 id you really want to redo the various wood items.

I just use some mineral spirits on a rag and wipe down the wood as needed. It seems to get the grime off with out losing the stock's patina and color. I then apply a coat or two of BLO

I've been using gojo and it works great. I use the smooth not the pumice kind.

stick it in the dishwasher on the pots & pans setting. comes out super clean down to bare wood, no joke. i read about it somewhere and i tried it on my garand stock, let it dry for a few days (in a cool shaded area) then put some oil on it, came out real nice. just make sure you run the dishwasher on empty a few times afterwards to wash out all the oil.
