    Wow ...

    I'm not a bayonet collector, but what makes that old girl worth $4,353.00 AUD?

    Regards,

    As I understand it;
    - Lithgowicon started production 1912 or 1913, and early years had quite limited production numbers as they geared up for the much larger war requirements, 1915 and after saw much much larger numbers.
    - Very few pre 1915 lithgow bayonets and rifles seem to have survived, as they probably all were used in europe and many many were lost on war service.
    - After 1915 quillions were removed en masse so combine that with limited numbers made, and limited survivors, there are very few around.

    Now add in, that few have survived in good condition ie rust, were made well with deep clear stamps in the metal,ie well made, and haven't been modified by civilians who loved to sharpened that long blade for brush clearing, ie as issued condition is all important.

    At this point most lithgow 1912/13/14's in decent conditionare easily around the $1,000 plus mark.

    I think the Gallipoli connection has made all the difference, and I wouldn't be surprised that the 2MD and other info was able to be corroborated with troops who did go there, thus increasingly authenticating the story of an historic battlefield pick up.

    Trouble is there is only a story and nothing to prove it one way or another, I have several MD2 marked blades all converted by Turkeyicon into 1935's I could just as easily say they were Gallipoli pick ups. You shoudl always buy the blade and not the story! Especially when the story costs 3000!

    Now I have a K98icon that was picked up in Berchess garden from A German general who said it was Hitlers ......................
