    Another Bedding Job Question

When to do the finish on the stock set ?

I'm going to use the NM stock set that CMPicon offers because of being inletted already. My question is should the glassing be done before I finish the stock set, i.e. oil it -OR- do my staining and oiling before doing the bedding ?

    Thanks again

I am in the process of bedding my Garandicon and I would wait until you have it bedded before doing your stock work. No matter how hard you try to keep the bedding compound off you stock-it's like herding cats-it will run. My stock was previously finished and I will have to refinish most of the area where the wood and metal meet. This was after I taped the stock with painters "blue" tape. Good luck and one word of advice, before you glue anything together do a dry run and make sure you have everything you need

Sir, it's a question of whether you prefer to mask the finish while bedding or mask the bedding while finishing. Having done it both ways, I now prefer to finish before bedding.

    JMHO, FWIW.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

My last bedding (CMPicon NM stock) I masked, did the bedding, then finished the wood. My reasoning (perhaps flawed) was I wanted the best possible bond of the bedding material to the wood possible. I didn't want BLOicon/Tung etc to be between the bedding material and the wood.
