A questions on history as it may apply to a 1943 Savage.
I have a 1943 vintage Savage that I am going to give to a person who has given a lot to many but who does not have a lot of spare resources for himself. He is a former Navy Corpsman who was assigned to the Marine Corps. he very well educated and is very interested and knowledgeable about military history so I know he will appreciate the history behind These rifles. Now to my question: Is there any other information that can be found by serial number on one such as likely issue date or probable theater of operation? I assume that most Savage built rifles went to the European Theater Of operations but I have made assumptions before and we all know how that works out. The more information I can give him relating to this rifle the better.
Thank you for your time.

Just where and when any Enfield may have been put to use, at least to me is almost impossible. Some do have ownership marks from various countries they may have been sold to or issued which is at least a useable lead in tracking down a given rifle's past. I am impressed by your generous gift to your friend!
