Sighting in 03-A3
Anyone have any suggestions about sighting this rifle in, ie. proper use of rear aperture, windage knob, basic tendencies of these rifles. Looking to set the rifle to shoot at 100yds through irons. Have only been able to put about 20 down range at an indoor @ 45yds. 1/2", 3 shot groupings at this distance. Any advice for a rifle newb would be appreciated.

If you have a ladder sight on the barrel you have an 03 . The A3 had a peep sight on the rear of the receiver.

Set the rear sight at it's lowest adjustment. That should get you pretty close to a 100 yd zero.

I just got an 03A3 a few weeks ago and took it to the range one day recently. I set up a SR-1 target at 50 yards and 100 yards. With the rear aperture centered and all the way down to the 100-yard elevation line, I shot 5-rounds at the 50 yard target in order to get a group centered left-right. I didn't worry about the vertical so much. If it had been way down or way up at the bottom or top of the paper, I would have worried about it. Not sure what I would have done about it, but I digress. Once happy with the left-right position I moved out to the 100 yard target and shot a group. I felt that with this process I would at least be on paper at 100 yards and probably somewhat near the center of the black such that I could tune from there.

the standard A3 front sight is set for about a 300 yard zero. with a letter A front sight blade, and a 6:00 hold, you can get it on at 100 yards.
with the original front sight blade, if you hold at the bottom of the target,, you might get a 100 yards 10 ring.
