Wasn't that originally designed to be a USN carrier aircraft?

You are correct Paul, it is the USN Tigercat. This is the USMC F7F-3N two seat configuration for night operations

I only ever saw one Tigercat fly and that was at the old "Great Warbirds" air display here in the UK at Wroughton back in 1992. I have to say, after watching a spirited display and having a good look at that beautiful aircraft on the ground, it struck me as a real thoroughbred .
