Help identifying KA-BAR
My grandfather was enlisted in the USN during WWII, though I don't know if he was ever deployed or not. He gave me this knife before passing away several years ago. I've been trying to identify it but I can't find a particular model. It could be commercial and purchased afterwards, I don't know, but I do know for fact that he was enlisted, and the knife appears to be pretty old. One side says "KA-BAR OLEAN N.Y." and nothing on the other side. Nothing I can see written on the crossguard, and possibly something written on the pommel I can't identify. I know next to nothing about these knives so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. There are lots of versions of these knives. This one has a thick pommel and was peened at the tang. That looks to have been ground and the handle stack has been replaced sometime along the way with a very thick replacement. Others will be along shortly...
