My opinion: They look nice but they aren't military and they aren't reproduction anything. Just bags made out of a material that looks slightly like the Swiss salt and pepper pattern. They also "look" soft which means they were not waterproofed. So, if you like the look of the bag and have a use for it and the price is right, go for it. If you want to re-enact, seek something else.

Re:reproduction back packs
In my humble opinion.
If it's not 100% Original Civil War or WW 1 or WW 2 or Post War or Current Military Field Equipment
either American or European Military Made Field Gear.
It's not worth having if it ain't the real deal!

Depends. Are you willing to take original Civil War items out into the field, slog through the mud, walk through the brush and sit by a fire in the evening? I don't know anyone that is willing to do that. So there is a large market for reproduction period items. As far as the Civil War goes, most of the firearms being carried aren't even original. The backpack in question isn't a reproduction, it's just a bag.

Looks like someone took a flour sack pattern and attached shoulder straps and buckles to the design.
