Gunbroker S.G. opinions?
Here's a link to an early S.G. for sale on Gunbroker:

Does this look like the real deal or is it's authenticity suspect?
TIA

It seems odd to find a S'G' flip sight on it. I could be wrong here, but S'G' would have still been in production...when this 3,4 SG was built. It wasn't until later in this serial number block that S'G' wrapped up and shipped any left over parts to SG.
I don't have a B-S'G' flip to compare this to....but it would be a good idea to see a known original.
I just don't understand the rear S'G' flip unless there was a parts tranfer I don't know about.
Normally I'd expect to see SG parts on a S'G' not S'G' on SG until the end of production at Grand Rapids.....I think in mid January of 1944.
Maybe possible there was a set back with the receiver and it ended up with a left over part passed on to SG after S'G' ceased production.
Other than that flip sight and the parked bolt the metal finish looks to be original.
The stock markings look fine.
It's just that dang flip sight.....................

I just dug out a SG 3,456,948 thought to be as issued except it has a adj rear sight. No Re-build mark and still a Hi-wood. Bolt is parked also....I'd guess that it should be blued. Large P proof on barrel. Basically same features as the one your looking at except the rear sight change. This one has the dot missing at 5 'o' clock on the buttplate.

I would pretty well chime in with the other comments. The flip sight looks a little funny to me as well as the ususual 'S'G' markings. The bolt is reparked over pitting. The slide looks like it may be a repark also. The trigger housing group looks right. It looks like an Inland buttplate to me.

I don't get a 'warm and fuzzy' feeling about this one. As stated above, the parked bolt alone is cause for concern. Charlie has some good points as well.
Not worth the $2300 starting price in my opinion.

It was the B-SG sight that caught my attention. Never heard of one on an S.G. and I too thought I could see a stake mark in pic 23 but wasn't sure. Definitely something funky going on there, IMHO
IF there were no such issues with this carbine, would it be worth the kind of $ the seller is trying to get? $2750 sounds like quite a stretch . . .

Nice looking stock on the S.G. but if Bubba has been at work on the bolt & sights then everything else is suspect as well, IMHO
Thanks Charlie and all others for weighing in on this. I'm still learning and value the opinions of those who have had the chance to personally see and handle a variety of M1 Carbines.

The rear sight is a reproduction and that is more then enough to steer clear of it. This seller seems to come up with quite a few of these of late as well as some of the more desireable parts. At one time he was selling stripped receivers if I remember correctly. Could be an East Coast version of George maybe.
