AXX barrel markings?
Hi,
I think this is my first post on this forum, though I am a long term reader, so greetings all
For the record, I own a 1943 Maltby No4 Mk1- but my question is not about it.
I recently looked at buying one which had been converted to 7.62 x 51. In the process it was mentioned to me that the barrel used was marked AXX, and I have seen this elsewhere (though I can't recall where). I tried searching to find what the significance of this might be, but the only thing I could find was Remington date codes (1951), which seems unlikely to be the context here (unless an old Remington barrel was used), and doesn't match the context of my poor recall of seeing it elsewhere.
Any ideas what it may mean?
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks guys
I haven't had the barrel in my hands, just seen photos and discussed via email, so I can't say what process was used on it.

The rifle in the auction was mine, and yes, the barrel was parkerized.
