1916 Spanish mauser bolt problem
Hi guys, son brought home a really worn out Spanish mauser. ( maybe usable parts worn out) but since its so bad, good project gun for him to learn on. Problem, safety on bolt inopt. Took bolt apart cleaned and reassembled, but same problem, when bolt is installed and cocked. The rear cocking cover( hope thats the proper name) does not move back far enough to the rear to allow the safety to engage. This one has me stumped, I can only assume given the condition of the rifle, the parts are incorrect, or?. Visually from what I have seen web searching, it appears correct. After blasting all the metal parts, he wants to use it as a shooter, and it still may survive yet, with a little help, but I stopped the project with the bolt issues. As usual thanks for any info.

Quite right. Learning is fine. Recklessness is not.
