How in the hell do you get the front sight hood back on a K98k!?
I should have known this would be a pain in the a$$ when it took me 20 minutes to get the damn thing off.
To get the barrel bands off I had to rmove the hood, and I'd like to get it back on there without scratching the rifle all to hell.
Any tricks?

Spread the hood gently with snap ring type pliers and then put it on from the rear of the sight. Once you have it on, use a mallet to set it in place.
Careful what you buy. Most regular snap ring pliers don't have the strength to open these hoods, so acquire for your Mauser tool kit, a large "heavy duty" reverse pliers (similar to a snap ring set) and a plastic/rubber mallet.
Makes the job pretty easy.

I scrounged through all of our mechanic's gear looking for spreaders like you mentioned. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and invest in a pair.
Thanks for the heads up.

I'd loan you mine, but I already loaned them to a guy at the club two years ago and haven't seen him since ...
So, I need to buy another pair too, but since I don't take them off very often, I haven't got around to replacing them.

I probably would've taken you up on the offer too.

I use the Mastercraft type with interchangeable heads. That way Ican use the bent head to tighten recoil cross bolts too
