Hythe rear sight
My question is how were these sights issued and who to. As in did they go to everybody as opposed to specialists?

I seem to recall that they were a 'demandable' item and not specific. But to units who's operational use was in places of what was described as '....half light and poor visibility'. That was certainly jungle theatres but after a few years they seemed to be quite common across the board. Soon augmented with SUIT and later IIW/night vision. I suppose that the Hythe sight was better than nothing at the time for lessons being quickly learned from SE Asia where massed Infantry attacks at dawn and dusk were becoming the norm.
Hopefully others can add to that
