Dumb question(s)
I am new to 'Black Rifles', so I have some questions.
Background: S&W M&P 15 OR, Eotec sight. When shouldering weapon, sight ring and dot are not there. I have to duck my head to view it. Not good. So.... raise sight. Now.... in the future, I may want a magnifier. The question is, what kind of riser do I get, should it be cantilever or not? And, does the magnifier go before the sight or after?
Thanks for any suggestions, Joe

If I understand you correctly, you just need the riser blocks. They're available anywhere that sells the EOTEC. They just bring your sight up a bit. I think they're half inch. Your doublers are made by many companies and they go on between your eye and the sight. Just ask to see one wherever you bought the EOTEC.

Jim is correct, you just need a riser block(s). The magnifier goes before the Eotech: eyeball, magnifier, Eotech. You will not be able to co-witness your iron sights with this setup though.

When does one use such an item? Combat targets? Used for some types of hunting besides the two legged type?

I know lots of guys that have them. They'll never see combat either. Much of this stuff that's sold here in North America is just for play.

Step 1: Bring the rifle up to your head, not the head down to the rifle.
Step 2: Eotechs, except the 553/557 type, are an absolute cowitness, so the height is the same for the reticle as irons.
A riser can work, obviously, but it's mostly personal preference.
If you have questions, I sold optics and mounts for a living after using an M4 for a living when i busted my knees.
Eotechs and Aimpoints are used for duty, defense, hunting (fast moving targets like hogs and bunnies, which, oddly enough is what they were originally developed for in the 70s) and competition, like 3-gun shooting.
Way back in the early 70s Aimpoint designed their first sight for Swedish hunters, who shoot from stands/seated position while dogs chase the animals through the woods. You have a second or two of engagement time for a shot, possibly for the whole season.
Then they realized "duh, this works in combat too".

Thanks for the pics! I bought one of these similar to yours, BUT, the knurled knobs are to large to allow the EoTec to fully seat, it hits the knobs. So, I will get one with smaller knobs.

If I bring the rifle up to my head, the toe of the butt digs into my shoulder. Being 'Old School', I like the butt fully on my shoulder. Not used to straight stocks. I'll eventually get it set up right, but I am a slow learner, (Old dogs.....................). I appreciate all youse guys help. As for the magnifier, 71 year old eyes need all the help they can get! Also, my rifle does NOT have iron sights.
