Early blued Inland ?
Got this barreled action the other day..
Here's what I think I know so far...The Pics show what I think is a Blued Inland Type II 556xxx range carbine with the flip sight marked w/small s on its left side, Type II B barrel marked, INLAND MFG DIV/GERNERAL MOTORS/ 7-43 short skirt barrel, blued and BI marked = (Brown-Lipe-Chapin) Note the "V" on the front lug of the Receiver. P proof 6&7/8 inches behind the muzzle w/Type IA band marked UI.
Op Slide:Type IV Park’d, marked faint U on bottom, Well defined PI on the inside.
The Trigger Housing Lugs tell the story, also the Inland logo measures .160”= early. Now the hammer with the additional cuts on the rear portion of the hammer is not shown in the Riesch’s book. But in profile it ID’s as Dogleg Type II. But with the additional cuts what is this one called?.. It must be rare if it is not shown in the book.. Right?
Hammer spring 26.5 coils Type II, Hammer spring plunger, blued. The other parts in the T.G. Ive ID’d as: Type II Trigger Spring, Type I Trigger blued (measures the .541inch) marked RI, Sear:Blued Type I ground unmarked, Sear spring Type II ,in the white, Safety Type II unmarked, Plunger Assembly, Magazine Catch/Safety: Blued Type I, Magazine Catch Type IA marked WI
How rare are the blued ones? Given the pitting which includes some in the barrel should I part it out? Make a shooter out of it using the badly faked stock that's in my other thread..Value of it as a barreled action? The flip sight spring is weak and the L doesn't stay locked all the way down.. Thanks guys..

I think that 556,xxx is a bit high for a blued finish. I not going to say it is impossible, just unlikely. I think that if you look at the finish in bright sun light, it will lack the bluish tint that a black oxide finish should have. I can see the two tone finish on the right side of the receiver, and the lower portion is almost a black color. But the top of the receiver is that dark color with a slight greenish tint and that is a typical Inland phosphate finish.
The barrel and receiver should have the same finish. If the barrel were blued, that portion from the gas cylinder to the breech will be a shiny, dark blue color, almost like a sporting rifle. I don't see that in the photos.
