Swedish Mauser Bayonet Won't Fit
I have a 1917 Carl Gustafs 6.5 Mauser that I bought a correct bayonet for. The ring won't fit over the end of the muzzle. Is there something I should know? Are there other styles of bayonets other than the m/96 that fit? Do I break out the dremmel? As far as I can tell the muzzle is not a threaded on cap. Any help would be appreciated.

The barrel end should be a smaller diameter than the barrel. I just pulled mine out, it does have a threaded end and I have a flash suppressor on it. The suppressor is still a smaller diameter than the barrel and the bayonet fits right over it.
If your barrel does not have a step on it, I don't know what to say. It may have a threaded cap on it that fits very tight. If it does have the stepped end, check the bayonet ring to see if it is bent out of shape.
My bayonet is all metal. It has a large hole in the handle that fits over the cleaning rod and the bayonet lug. It has a pull out "tab" to release it from the lug. I don't know the nomenclature for it though.

Here are the items/areas in question. I tried to unscrew the end but got timid. Don't want to mar the finish.

Everything looks to be as it should be. Even if it does have a cap, the bayonet should fit over it. A couple of things you can check are that the bayonet release is opening up. If it isn't, it could be that that isn't allowing it to go onto the barrel. Slim possibility that the cleaning rod could be hanging up on the inside but given the amount of space in there and it not looking bent in your photo, that's probably unlikely.
The last thing would be a burr or bend in the bayonet ring. If it has none of those and it's close, I'd just polish the inside of the bayonet ring until it fits. I had to do that with a Nagant bayonet once. I did it by hand with fine sandpaper rather than a dremel. A dremel could take too much out in one spot. Sandpaper spun in a circle will take a uniform amount off all the way around.

Swedish Mauser Bayonet Won't Fit
I have a flash suppresor on mine and the bayo won't fit. The O.D of the suppressor is .612 and the I.D. of the bayo is .559. Without the suppressor, bayo fits fine but a little loose due to the threads.
Flash suppressors were after market and maybe there were different manufacturers??

Or the bayonet rings are different sizes. If I put my bayonet on my rifle without the suppressor in place, it would be more than a little loose. I don't have any way to measure the diameter that accurately but it does not appear to have been altered, the finish is still on it on the inside.

Problem solved by a cleaning mop with some 180 grit sandpaper wrapped around on a cleaning rod mounted in my cordless. Couple seconds on, then checked for fit. Took about 10 minutes to fix. Thanks for all the imput.

"Many m/96 and m/38rifles will be found with the muzzle end of the barrel threaded for a blank firing device for use with wooden bullet blanks commonly used in training."these rifles were referred to as B models like m/96B. Some importers have added attachments like muzzle brakes but these are not original equipment.

The Rifle of Neutrality article. This Mag apparently only comes out once a year? I hope I'm wrong and it's at least a quarterly.
this magazine has been very informative and may have influenced me on my swedish mauser purchase this weekend. I didn't remembered this article until monday night.
