Found a 1899 carbine need your knowledge.
I found a 1899 carbine at a local gun shop for 150 with what appears to be a weaver m29s scope attached. The carbine appears to be in good shape but is missing the rear sight and the hand guard. Can you give me an understanding of what it would cost to put it back in original condition and on its current value? Doesn't seem to be bubba'd other than the scope.

It depends on the way the scope is mounted. The handguard is going to cost you for a good one. We'd need a few more pics.

I embrace your decision as the screws seem to go through the receiver on that mount. I wouldn't want it unless you're parting it out.

Sounds like a good buy to me........especially if the bore is good. Would probably need the M1901 Carbine sight and handguard for the M1901 sight.

I also think its a bargain. The stock alone is worth more than that. It would make a fun shooter. Salt Flat

I agree with 'Salt Flat' and 'model1903'.
Even though the scope-mount holes destroy collectability of receiver, the 1899 carbine stock could be worth $200-300. (The scope holes don't compromise the receiver's strength for shooting purposes).
An original carbine barrel with a good bore is worth $150-200.
You could have a nice looking 'shooter' carbine by adding a $70 (rifle) rear sight and $75 reproduction hand-guard.
You could enjoy it as is, knowing it is worth more than you paid for parts value.

Or part it out...for more than you paid. We don't even see those over here...

Agreed with the part it out mentality. Rarely do I but here's your chance to help someone (a couple someones maybe) complete a resto-mod on a rare variant all while earning yourself a buck or two. It's for the greater good, really
