Heads up on $15 mislurp Bren cover
It is at Omega Arms, listed as "gun cover" under Bren parts. These sell for $40-50 elsewhere I've seen.
Omega Weapons Systems (520) 889-8895
I ordered one and its a beaut. Impregnated heavy OD canvas. Postwar. Unissued condition. Waterproof as a duck's back. Marked on the inside in white ink:
D^D
CI/(illegible)
M.TX
1954
If anyone here can tell me more about its pedigree, I'd appreciate it.
No pictures on Omega's site, but it is the same as this one, but milsurp instead of new-made:
British Bren Machine Gun .303 Cover ima-usa.com
Omega's web site doesn't have an on-line shopping basket or credit card system yet. Click "Ordering Information" in the left-hand column. You drop the owner an email and he'll reply with the shipping charge. Then you send him a letter with check or MO. Primitive, but well worth it for the price and quality.
I have no commercial or personal interest in Omega. Just wanted to give the mob here a heads-up before they're all sold.

Made in Australia with the D^D ownership mark. They used to be fairly common. I still have a couple here too. I think that's what I paid several years ago for them. It's an interesting piece of kit.

Were used to cover the Bren while mounted in the AA or commanders position on the Abbott, Ferrett and Saracen AFV or on the old larch-pole mount. Obsolete when the last of the Bren mounted Ferretts were converted to GPMG. That's in UK service so don't know about others. NEVER ever saw one used. In fact, they didn't bother to invent/design a similar item when the GPMG's were fitted because everyone knew by then that the tarpaulin/canvas hatch cover (or a poncho) was better Same as the spent case collector bag thinggy. Good in theory but crap in practice. Didn't do anything that a cardboard compo ration box didn't do better! And when the box was full of spent brass (usually blank cases) they were simply tossed out of the side.
For the ammo technicians out there reading this, I KNOW what the ammo tech regulations said you had to do, but we're talking about the practicalities of living for days in the turret
