What I've been able to learn so far is that it was the original BFA design, replaced by the M15 series because it could be shot loose. My guess is that most were destroyed. What's aggravating is that there is NO documentation to be found anywhere for it.

Yes, I looked in The Black Rifle and mum's the word. I've seen a few and one of these.

When the Australian Army had M16A1 rifles before the Steyr this was one of the BFA's that was issued. These could have been in the system for a long time as Australia starting using M16's in Vietnam. I remember them being hard to get on and off.

I knew it was that easy. I thought I had seen them before too. I was with 8/9 RAR in 1977 and we used Aussie weapons throughout. That must have been where I saw it.
