A long search finally over..1886 Lebel soon to arrive.
After a looooong search, I shall soon be in possession of an 1886 Lebel rifle. I have been looking for one of these for as long as I can remember. Berthiers abound around here, but hardly any Lebels, and when one does show, the owner wants an arm and a leg for it. This is the iconic rifle of the First World War IMO, even more so than my beloved SMLEs or a Gew98. As this will be my first Lebel, are there any owners out there that could tell me what needs to be looked at as far as issues or peculiarities of this weapon? Will have some pics as soon as she arrives!

Lucky you. Number one on my acquisition list and none to be found.

Aside from the ammo changes and Post-WWI sight reconfigurations, I don't think there's much to particularly fret over. I'm still looking as well. both for a mixmaster and and one that's reasonably matching. (The mixmaster mostly just needs a good bore so I can rebuild my wretched M1917 semi-auto rifle.)
