Soldat, by Siegfried Knappe 7 Ted Brusaw.
isbn 0 517 58895 1

An interesting read by an officer who started of in the labour force and then, in 1936, joined the artillery to do his two years service. Offered the chance to go to a military academy, he decided to become an officer.

This lead to an interesting careeer in which he ended up as an Major and Operations officer on the staff of Gereral Weidling and leading the defence of Berlin in the final days of the war. In this capicity, he had direct dealings with Hitler and others such as Bormann.

Wounded four times, he spent five years in capitivity in Russa before being able to return to his wife.

An excellent read.
