Question Scope Mount for M1 Carbine

    Has anyone tried this mount:
    M1 Carbine Amega Mount
It's made by the same company that makes the mount that the CMPicon sells for the M1 Garand.

Looks like the Ultimak, but $50 more:
M1 .30 Carbine Forward ("Scout") Scope Mount

Heard good things about the ultimak

Looks fun, but $150 worth of fun?

It would not look right on a collector gun. I would think you would only put it on a shooter.

If you wanted something like that, why not just get an AR? Ruger has a short piston SR556 out now that's pretty cool.

Agree with Jim about the looks, but I also wonder how stable this type would be anyway.
Is there anything else securing it other than what is normally used to secure a regular hand guard?

It bolts on the the barrel as described on the manufacturer's web site:
    M1 Carbine Amega Mount
I think it's a lot like the one they make for the M1 Garand (they also make it for the CMPicon):
    M1 Garand Mini Scout Mount

The mount secures by a series of allen screws that attach a plate around the barrel. Very secure. Same platform as with the CMPicon Garandicon mount.

That would be secure enough for a basic zero with a red dot for a 100 yard PDW. I have seen several carbines with the Ultimak version set up as PDWs with red dots and sure-fire. I am a traditionalist, but it is not reall a bad idea!

How about a Leupold FX-II 2.5x28mm IER Scout on it? That's what I'm planning on using on the mount I'm getting for one of my M1icon Garands and that's why I'm looking at scope options for an M1 Carbine.

Dang! The EOTech sight probably costs as much as the carbine, unless the M1A1icon stock is original!

    Very cool!
