    Keystone stocks?

So can someone tell me how and when a USGI Keystone C Stock was installed on a Remington 03A3? I want to increase my knowledge about the one I acquired.

The only Remington rifle that came from the factory with a C stock was the M1903 A4 Sniper. Any M1903 A3 with a C stock had the stock installed either at a rebuild facility or by anyone who preferred the C stock to a straight stock.

I believe that most (all?) replacement stocks installed by a repair facility will be stamped with an arsenal code on the side, & proof P on the handgrip. A replacement stock with only the maker's code was likely installed after the rifle left the military.

I think (without certainty) the P was not put on a spare but only a stamp from the arsenal.
Many A4s had S stock during the conflict. I had a video of the troops in action on the Rhine and briefly saw a sniper with his S butt.
the first models released had more regularly the stock S and the commercial 330 C weaver scope.

I let the professionals of 1903 answer these questions and benefit from their knowledge

The original production block of 03/A4 rifles was produced with C stocks that were provided by SA but later in production the scant stocks were used. No standard S type stocks were used in original production.

I believe Keystone stocks were used primarily for arsenal rebuilds, I don't think any were used in A4 production?? I picked up mine from a supplier in Holland, who had NOS Keystones about 6 years back .... Took 'some serious' bedding to get it fitted right!
