Scope Mounting - M1A
I recently got a Sadlak scope mount for my M1A. In order to mount, it appears I need to remove the "clip" guide from the receiver. I note that the guide has either a roll pin or a very small allen head screw.
My eyes suck and I cannot tell if it is a roll pin or an allen. Which is it?
Thanks for any input.

ps. Does one just "tap" the clip guide out with a shielded punch?

Roll pin.
You need to tap it out from below...remove bolt and tap out enough to slide the clip guide to the Left, looking at it from the rear.

Thanks for the input. I intended to try the scope mounting (Sadlak and glass) myself. A project I've never done before.
Any particular pitfalls? Would it be better to get a good smith to do the job?
Any special tools? someone mentioned a torque wrench......

It's very easy to do. You need a 1/16" roll pin punch (Home Depot). Find the hole where the roll pin can be reached from under the receiver, in the bolt channel. (grease may obscure it...)
Tap the roll pin out maybe 1/3 " or all the way if you wish.
Take a rubber mallet or wood block and tap the clip guide off from right to left, viewed from the back. IF you do it in the other direction, you may crack the receiver. The clip guide groove is slightly tapered.
I use the GDI mount, it leaves more room for the case to be ejected and also permits bolt removal without having to remove the scope mount. In any case, the SADLAK should be easy to install, their instructions are quite detailed. Be sure to not tighten any of the bolts until you wiggle the assembly to make sure everything mates correctly. Then tighten a little at a time, like lug nuts. Fire a mag and then check the bolts.
