Yeah, I've searched high and low: this site is about as good as it gets for that sort of thing.

One more thing, the serial number is faint but legible. Is there a way to look up the number that can tell me more about it ?

A Number 4 Mark 1 rifle made at the Royal Ordnance Factory, Fazakerly in October of 1943. The marks near the muzzle are Britishicon commercial proof. .303 caliber, 2.2" nominal cartridge case length and 18 tons p.s.i. pressure. The serial number won't give any clues to the rifle's history.
