You "read" the gauge at the rear end of the receiver ring. The receiver ring on a M1903 is much longer than the receiver ring of the M1 or M14.

The 795241 is a TE gauge for a bolt action rifle chambered in 30-06 and the 133512 it a universal TE gauge for M1, M1A in either .308 or 30-06. They way it looks the bolt action will have a deeper breech judging by the length of the gauge. Because the M1 and M1A are basically the same breech they would only need the different gauge end while the gauge itself is the same.
