I just worked on one almost identical and it should be marked. Understand the markings are so fine and light they may have all but disappeared. My understanding is they would be for sea duty, that is on board ship. This would probably be just a normal glass for daily use. The sun shade should be a bit more like sunglasses, but it could have clouded with age...can't say as I can't see it close up. The tinning of the tubes could be to avoid tarnish. I haven't see that on any I've worked on...your front shade should also be covered in leather...very fine thin leather. It's virtually identical to the one I had here.

If there were markings they have long vanished. As I disassembled it I went over every inch with a magnifying glass in bright light and only found those Roman numerals. Would you suggests I recover it with new thin leather? I would love to see pics of yours.

I don't own the one I was working on. There's a relic and curio shop I do piece work for and did almost the same thing to his as you did to yours. I don't know who would do the re-cover for you, there will be people here that DO know though...
