M1 Carbine Ammo in Sealed Can Question

A friend of mine sent me the following:

"I have aquired a sealed can of 30 carbine ammo. It has the following markings;

600 cartridges
cal .30 carbine
ball m1
in 10rd clips bandoleers
lot lc 13831"

He wants to know if this is a collectable piece or to save it for shooting? Best guesses......

Both, keep it cool& dry!
Should have a "packed date" on can, think by "lot number" might be mid-60's.
Others will confirm.

I have opened sealed cans by cutting a hole in the bottom to save the can for display.

If you or he does not already have one, I think you should keep it sealed in your collection. At least for now.
If you are a shooter only and not a collector, you can sell it for a good price to someone who is. Sometimes called spam cans, most of us have some. I have two unopened.

Not an uncommon piece, and there aren't that many out there who would actually pay anything for it as a "collectible". Much more valuable as good shooting ammo.

The ammo will always be worth what good shooting ammo is worth, plus a premium for the unopened can.

The ammo in stripper clips did not come out till the Korean war.
I have 3 cans of LC, I'd like to find someone who had a can of WCC to trade one of them for.
I'm also looking for one of the 800 and 900 rd cans for my display and the wood crates that held 2 cans of any of these.
