The White War: Life and Death on the Italian Front 1915-1919

I've been trying to read this book for several months now and I just can't. It is perhaps the least interesting military book I've ever attempted to read.

The topic looked interesting and it is something I know extremely little about so I entered into it pretty enthused.

The author has filled it with incredible amounts of political background that makes it unbearable to read. Granted the fighting on this front is pretty static with lots of attacks that go nowhere fast but still, stick to the tactics, the battles, etc. I'm estimating that this amounts to perhaps 20% of the book, the rest being political intrigue, history, etc.

I can't recommend this one unless you're into that sort of thing.

Instead of being a book you can't put down, this one has become one I can't pick up. Destined to never be finished.
