James Howe Talking About a Rifle - 1903 Springfield?
One of my most recent auction wins. I'll probably have to hang on to this as I'm building a nice little library on 1903 Sporter stuff.
I can't quite make out what all the letter says but I think it'll be clearer once I have it in my hands.
How much do you figure a James Howe autograph is worth?

A founding partner in the famous Griffin and Howe gun shop. Nice catch.
Some do, some don't; some will, some won't; I might ...

Personally I think any such documentation should be kept with the rifle, regardless of any perceived (and probably misguided) incentives for "parting out".
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”
Edward Bernays, 1928

There isn’t any rifle. It’s just the letter and some assorted “junk drawer” type stuff.
If I had THE rifle mentioned in this letter, I certainly wouldn’t be parting it out...I’d be be clearing room in the safe!
