    Question Aussie #6 repro

I just read a back issue of the American Rifleman it had a nice article on the Proto-type #6 made up by the boys down under. I saw a knock off last week at a NY gun show, looked very nice and included a sight mounted on the bridge. He was asking $800.00 US. Was this price out of line for a knock off? I wouldn't mind having one if they are indeed impossible to get, but not sure if I want to spend that kind of money on a could be (maybe I should make one)-SDH

For $800 US, maybe it was a real one?

Anything is possible, but a realistic price would be 5 times that and up. Remember, there were only 194 made and some of those were used for later experiments in 7.62.

Forget about trying to copy the receiver sight types, they were a different casting to start with.

Hum, wonder where I can get a print of the rear sight, sounds like a challenge. At the price there getting looks like I'll be making one sometime after my back log clears up. All the local fellows are gearing up for the outdoor bullseye season and I can't seam to catch a break for my own work, go figure-SDH

Let me know what info you need. If it's just the rear sight for the receiver mounted sight model, then just buy one at the next gunshow. Seriously- the only imported part on the whole rifle is the Savage made sight- straight off a No4 I believe. Here, have a look for yourself.....

I wonder if I fitted a reduced Savage Mk 4 no 1 into the correctly modified fore end of the Mk III, I might get the desired results. I've got a little more pondering to do on this one before I get cutting. I have a few on-going projects to go before I get to this one. Thanks for your input-SDH
