LB No4 MkI* Proofs and Stamps
Here we go, like so many others new to Enfields and the group I find myself asking, “what are all of these marks and stamps on the gun?" I took it apart to look, learn, and clean. My father owns a Thompson that had gone to the UK early in 1940 so I was familiar with some of the British proof and inspection marks like the broad arrow, various crowns, inspectors marks but my Enfield appears to have a good bit more (not like my Mosin where you’d have a hard time finding a clear spot to add one more). Anyway, I did try and find a thread or sticky and did find some info but not really all I was looking for. As I said I’m probably the one millionth customer that has asked this so if there is a good link or resource you can point me to I’m happy to dig around myself. My Enfield is a 1944 LB (60L12XX) No4 MkI* I believe the DC mark is Dominion of Canada, the C with the broad arrow is also Canada, LB Long Branch, but there other marks here and there that I’m curious about. I have attached a few photos of the barrel and receiver for comment. Oh, and there also seem to be some marks missing. I know in the case of the Thompson when it was released another broad arrow was added to the first point to point looking like an asterisk and there was another mark added to the barrel a pressure test before release. I don’t see these on this weapon, did Canada not do that?
My first attempt at posting photos so I missed tagging them or adding a comment hopefully they are self explanatory.
