M1917 Stock Splice
I have a M1917 stock that has been "sporterized", okay, cut just before the lower band. I also have a P-14 DP stock that has had various repairs and volley sight holes but with a good forestock. Is there a proper way to splice the two stocks together, would such a stock be CMP legal? Ed

I'm confused by the term "before". If you mean that the M1917 stock is cut just "forward" of the lower band you may be able to make a splice under the lower band, as was done with many 98K mausers that were brought back in barracks bags. The band will cover the splice and, if the wood color matches, the repair won't be obvious.
A bit of research should reveal the method(s) employed in making such a repair.
