An Option to a Colt SAA 3rd Generation
I've been toying with the idea of a 45 SAA just as a shooter. Even a Colt 3rd Generation will go $1000-1200 and a 2nd more than that. What about the Umberti 45 SAA at about a third the cost- are they any good compared to a Colt 3rd generation just as a shooter? THANKS

Why not just buy the Ruger SAA version of the same thing, very reasonable price and great shooters.

That's an option I'm also considering. I was just wondering what the opinion of Umbertis is?

It's been many a year...
...but back when I was into the "Cowboy Shows" , when we did a lot of blank shooting and a lot depended on a gun going bang when it was meant to ( live , stage shows) we , as a group , got tired of misfires from the colt style actions. We all started "upgrading" to Ruger Vaqueros. Solved a lot of our "stage stress". I cannot recall a Ruger ever failing once in any of our shows.
The Colt style lockwork is more fragile and likly to go south , but many perfer it to the modern lockworks. It 's basicly how orig. you want to go.

Nothing else is QUITE the same. The Ruger's tougher by a mile, and the Cimmeron/ Uberti's feels fairly close. But they just don't quite FEEL the same as a Colt. If you are going to compete, get the new small frame Ruger. Friend of mine at work was an End Of Trail champion and his daughter is as well, although she's now part of Team Glock, I think, well, both highly recommend and use Rugers. (Sorry for the run-on, its been a really long day.)
Myself, a 44spl, 5 1/2" bbl. Colt can't be beat. But that's just for funsies.
