Maschinengewehr MG34
To me the MG34 is one of the finest Weapons ever made. This MG34 is mounted on its tripod with long range sights for sustained fire role, as used by the Wehrmacht, still dressed in colonial garb from the campaign in the Western Desert, in their defense of southern Italy.

The L7 GPMG/MAG58 will do everything an MG34 and MG42, more versatile will do and MORE and been in production longer too.........
Our military training always tells us that rocky outcrops or locations are VERY dangerous places to hole-up in or defend. You've got TWO lots of incoming fire. The bullets and the rock splinters

The MG34 is a beautifully made gun. It’s from the time before mass production, stamped metal and now injection molded plastic. It was made the old way, with many hours of craftsmanship turning out fine precision.
MG42/G3’s and the Bren continued in service for decades after they had been surpassed by the MAG. In fact MG42/G3’s are still in service and I think India might still have some Brens in service.
I think some parts of the MAG are directly copied from the MG42. IIRC, the grip/trigger and feed mechanisms.

Yes. Often what look like good locations to an untrained eye are more dangerous than slit trenches. A sunken road comes to mind. There’s nowhere to hide when the mortar rounds hit the road.

Parts of the MG42 and L7 trigger mechanism are interchangeable. There's nothing that will restore your confidence or lift a heavy load more than a GPMG opening up or returning fire close by.

They are definitely well designed guns. Even though they are not the most modern firearm, they could still be easily pressed into service and preform adequately. There are better options now, but this MG in terms of the evolution of the MG, is definitely one of the most important, especially in regards to man portable sustained fire capable MGs.

I have owned and shot an MG 42 since about 1963.
I used the US M60 in combat in 1970. I would have been happier if I had had my MG 42!
