L39 Unit Information - help !
I'm looking to acquire an L39A1 serial number UE.72.A1018 ( I have asked Simon in the request for L39A info thread re it's issue date)
The butt has a unit marking "CON7" with various other parts (eg Bolt) marked with a 7.
This is allegedly a RAF unit.
Would anyone know of this unit marking, who / where it was etc ?
Thanks

It was issued to RAF Conningsby
How do I know this? because their L1A1 rifles used to come to 43 District Workshops for repair and overhaul and they were all marled like this on the butts. Also, RAF Wittering also had WITT painted on the butts of their rifles and their Sterling SMG's also had it on a little disc attached to the return spring cap.
Next question...................

What a small world - it'll be 'coming home' then. I'm about 5 miles from Conningsby ( as the Eurofighter flys)
Peter :- Thanks, Thanks, Thanks, Thank... Than.... Tha...... and thanks again.

Never say Never !!!
Hoping to do a deal with a direct trade for my No2 Mk4* (.22 training rifle).
Mr Policeman said I can have a one-for-one variation changing the .22 for a 7.62
So I'll lose a .22 (but sure I can justify another if a No8 or No9 comes up) and gain an L39.

Sorry - yes I remember the thread well now you mention it.
The No9 was of course the bullpup EM-2.
Stands in corner, head down.

Hi Alan. Just had a guess at your question in the thread above, then saw this one down here. Nice to see thanks to Peter, that at least my guess was spot on.

Three 7.62s on your license - Alan I salute you!
Hope you enjoy it - I really like shooting my l39.
