What's a good price? They've had there ups and downs on quality, but as a new production rifle, it may still be under warranty if you do have problems.
I handled one at the SHOT show and it felt cheap compared to the originals.
Personally, I'd rather have a mix master USGI.

They list for $816. For that you can get you a mixed parts GI carbine with history. Better resale value too.

I've seen them selling retail for around $750. Still too high IMHO. Get a nice GI arsenal rebuild for that much.

$400 seems pretty reasonable assuming it's in good shape.

There are people who love their commercial carbines. I would say 90% of them have not shot a nice USGI carbine. The best are ones serial numbered over five million. They incorporate the latest designs. Commercial carbines are not made the same with the same inspection and all parts will not interchange. This could be important in the future to you. And a type 1 band is not the best at holding the barrel. It is the worst, a type 2 is a lot better and a type 3 is the best.
USMC, I sent you a PM.

First understand that I am not a habitual "nay sayer" or profit of doom. I am certainly not a person who thinks only USGI carbines are good shooters I have had several commercial carbine through the years that were great weapons. In General, though, I would say RUN, don't walk, away from Auto Ordnance. They are in my personal experience JUNK!
I had (briefly) an Auto Ord carbine. It took three tries with customer service to get a stack and handguard that fit. Parts are similar to USGI, but not all are interchangeable. It would not cycle a full magazine of military FMJs from a USGI 15 round magazine. I sold it to a re-enactor CHEAP, and he plugged the barrel and made it a blank only weapon. I worked part time at a gunshop. We sold two, both of which were bought back as defective.
From what I have seen, I would rather have an Iver Johnson or Plainfield if ai had a non-GI. At least they usually are reliable and use USGI parts.
Now at $400, if you could test fire it, and it fed a whole 30 rounder without malfunction, it would probably be a decent deal
