This is the record of the two and a half years spent by Sir Nevile Henderson as Ambassador fo the german goverment. From the end of April 1937 until England declared war on Germany in September 1939 Sir Nevile Henderson repersented the british people, as well as it's Goverment to Adolf Hitler and the German people.
His mission, as he saw it, was to fold. First to faithfully interpret the wishes of his own goverment and to place these views before the german goverment. Secondly, to explain the views and standpoint of the German goverment to the goverment of Great Britian.
Possibly, no one could have suceeded in such a mission in 1937. However, Sir Nevile Henderson was convinced that he had to try. It appears that his major failing was, as he says in his book, "...but even today, I do not regret having tried to belive in Germany's honour and good sense." There was never either in Hitlers Germany.Information
