IBM slide and rear sight
I have a IBM carbine that is very original. The rear sight base is correct but looks like the flip sight has been replaced with a single leaf flip sight. Possibly from a later version. And the type 3 slide has been replaced and I think it is a type 4 or 5. I was hoping some one could identify it? And is it worth finding the correct parts to make it all correct, type 3 slide was weaker and possibly why it was replaced.i will post pictures as soon as i figure out how.

The parts your asking about are serial number dependent as to which is correct time frame wise. Photos will help a lot.

I think I got the pictures figured out. The rifle is an early IBM serial number 3690972. should have a type 3 slide and type 1 rear sight.

Inland sent slides to IBM in the Fall of 43 so perhaps that explains the presence of the PI marked slide. Also, I find the rear sight very interesting. The base is forward, but the aperture is facing backwards and appears to have been customized.

Thanks for the info I was not making that PI marking out till you said that. upon further inspection I have a type IV PI slide that could be correct for the rifle. no part number stamped on the bottom just the letter I. which is an early type four.
Now that rear sight?? leave it alone or try and replace the flip sight?

It looks as though one of the blades has been removed on the rear sight. It might have been damaged at some point and “cleaned up”??

I think you will find the slides received from Inland were type 3 slides. It looks like IBM received about 25,000 of them late summer and up to December 1943. IBM did not start using the type 4 slide till after the 3.77 million mark.
