A friend gave this box recently. It was still unopened.

Nice find.
Is it actually "Match" quality or if it's just marked specifically for DCRA use?

It was my impression that select lots were designated for match use. I have shot these selected lots of DA 62 into .5 -5 shot groups at 100 yards in a M88 and M700.
I never did see any rounds marked as in the photo . The stuff I shot was in the sealed green plastic bandolears ? on stripper clips.

Somewhere in the distant past I recall hearing some target rifle guys talking about DCRA supplied ammo that was suitable only for use only in bolt actions. This ammo seemed to be highly regarded by these guys for it's accuracy. I would guess that the "target Rifle only use" restriction was due to the ammo being loaded with slower than military spec powder. This would make the ammunition less than suitable for use in the C1 / C2 gas operated weapons.
Perhaps this is the ammo they were talking about? There must have been something unusual about the load or why else mark the cases so distinctly?
It would be interesting to crono a few of those to see what the speed was compared to a standard 1960's DA round.

DA did not make a match ctg. The most accurate lots of ball ammo of the annual production was selected for the DCRA.The box label identifies the contents as C21 Ball which was NATO standard 7.62 suitable for all small arms of that calibre.
The 1960 DCRA ammo was the only one that was marked with a band. .303" DCRA ammo from the 20-30s was marked with coloured bands specific to the year of issue.
