Rear sight ?
How can you tell for sure that the receiver had a flip or a adjustable or both ? I have a early receiver with a adj. but can't tell or see if it had a flip without removing the sight. Were the stake marks different for the 2 type sights.\ ?
Thanks Chris

The flip sights usually were staked with a chisel mark just to the right side of the sight. Factory fresh and rebuild fitted type 2 and 3 sights are generally staked with a round punch mark front and rear in the notches made for the purpose. If the type 2 or 3 was a field mod, anything could be found as well as no staking at all.

You said an early receiver. Who made it and what is the serial number range. That will say which sight would have been on it originally.

There are 2, a NPM 1.4 and a winn. 1.2

If they have the type 2 or 3 rear sight, bayonet lug and flip safeties then they have both been through the rebuild programs post war. They both would have had the type 1 flip sight and the type 1 barrel band, push safety and unmarked magazine catch originally.
