A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. This is a lot harder than you would imagine.

Firstly, you need an accurate rifle.

As you would be silly wrecking a good quality matching K98icon by adding a telescopic sight, I would suggest you find a Russianicon Capture or mismatched K98 for your project.

The next step is to take it to a high quality gunsmith and have the rifle stripped down and reassembled for accuracy. You may also want to have a new barrel installed. These are made by Lothar Walther and are much more accurate than the originals. You will also want to get our trigger polished and cleaned up as well.

Once you have your rifle shooting well, then it is time to think about adding a scope.

If you get on the internet you will see that you can get reproduction ZF39 scopes fairly readily. These are actually not too bad. They are not, however, as clean and crisp optically as the original scopes, however they do the job.

The next question is how you would like to mount you scope. In my opinion, you probably wouldn't go wrong going with a LSR however the High Turret mount was most prevalent and they are easier to use. On the downside, you need to get a really good gunsmith to fit the turrets as this requires precision machining and a great deal of skill if done properly.

Also, with the turret mounting systems you need to get a smith who is competent enough to strip the scope and silver solder the rings to the scope tube. This is quite difficult.

At the end of the day, if not done properly you will have a scope fitted out of alignment with the bore and, if that happens, you have a nightmare of a time trying to zero the rifle.

Good luck, but don't wreck a good rifle to do your project.

    Cheers
