parkerized?
I am hoping people with more knowledge than I can help me out. I have an SC 03a3 that is very black on the metal, I have read they were dyed black but turned green from oils or cosmoline. Can anyone give me a method to tell,I do not think the rifle is blued because the markings, punch marks and manufacture marks are sharp and crisp. Made in 43 it is still looks new. Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks

Pics would help greatly...many have been re-arsenaled and therefore re-finished. Some were done by other countries as well.

It's difficult to describe colors. But, when I hear "very black", there's a good chance you are describing the "Greek return" rifles sold by CMP about 15 years ago. If the stock is grease stained from storage, they would be typical of Greek rifles.
