The Model 1911 was no longer being shipped in numerical order at the time your's was manufactured, and it could have been shipped from Colt at any time from November 25, 1918 untilFebruary 17, 1919. Only a letter from Colt ($100.00) will tell you the date of shipment as well as it's destination.
There is a very slim chance that it will show up in SRS, and then it may only tell you that it was shipped from an Army base back to Springfield years after it was manufactured, or some other insignificant data.
Your pistol does fall into the serial number range of a lot of pistols that were shipped to some very interesting destinations. If your pistol is a very nice example it might be worth the gamble to get the Colt letter, but if not original and not in the best of condition, I would forego the letter.

Johhny, Many thanks, Pistol is solid, exhibits a lot of finish loss esp. the slide, and somebody added an Arched MS housing and HS barrel. All else is original. Small parts retain lots of finish, but slide and frame illustrate both the rough polish of later 1918 production 1911's and the poorer quality finish. Again thanks Steve McG

Mr. Clawson had access to the Colt shipping records, but after the pistols were no longer shipped in numerical order, all he could do was record the high and low serial number in the shipment of a specific date. There were some very large shipments in the serial number range of your pistol, but there were also a lot of small shipments during the same time frame. It is the small shipments that went to some interesting destinations.

Like Johnny said the shipments start on 25 November, (two weeks after the armistice.) The number in question was not in my SRS info. Here's whats there. /Ken

This is an interesting thread... I have 2 pistols I have been wondering about. Both are in several serial number ranges listed in Goddards book with different destinations. I've been debating wether or not to get the historical letter from Colt's... I am thinking I should. The first one is 477,88X and the other is 555,59X. Both pieces are in original and nice condition. Is it worth the gamble??
