    Useless bit of bayonet information

I was cleaning up a Swissicon model 1918 bayonet and seeing my M1icon Garand standing in the corner, I thought why not? . . . It fit perfectly but does not lock up. While I'm on the Swiss bayonet topic, does anyone know what will reduce the tarnish on these. The finish appears to be a nickel coating.

I don't think it's nickle, I had one and know exactly which one you have. I tried the same thing. Just use a bit of chrome polish and it will look amazing.

Soldiers were allowed, at their own expense, to have their bayonets nickle-plated. This reduced the attention they had to give their bayonet to prevent rusting. Rusting was a problem, because they drilled in the snow so much. They must have been hawks about maintenance. You never see Swissicon rifles or bayonets with any pitting, yet the rifle's buttstocks are usually all chewed up from knocking the snow off hob-nailed boots.
