I have only been collecting and shooting the M1 icon

Carbine for a bit more than 25 years and have accumulated a shelf of reference material but I need help with a receiver mark or inscription. I am going to try to attach a photo. Files attached (I think).

Looks Israeli to me. Is the carbine in question an import?

Yeah, Israeli was my first thought but can't seem to verify that. It is probably an import but there is no evidence of that on the rifle or in the previous ownership as far as I can track it. Thanks for the reply.

P.S. Might there be a small Importers stamp on the right rear side of the receiver?

Receiver is Winchester 5598807 and bbl is Underwood 7-43. I am not familiar with importers stamps but there is no other marking on the right rear of the receiver.

Though I can't see the marking very well. The Thai Crest comes to mind.

Looks like that Brit Crown maybe there again Charlie, on the left ! Don't know about the other markings but suits the time ! See if he produces better pics. Cheers. Mike.

I'm thinking we need help from Jim Mock.

I looked back thru CCNL #349 and can't see a link to the Brit, Canada icon

and other Commonwealth property markings.

The Underwood barrel is a replacement, so wondering if the original WRA barrel might have had Brit Proof markings?

'Scuse me, why would you say the Underwood barrel was a replacement ? What has that to do with the original question on the strange inscription on the receiver ? Underwood barrels were used by many manufacturers, including Winchester, during the wartime production period and actualy preferred. Maybe I am wasting your time with my query. Sorry about that.
