US Civil war Eli Whitney Navy Revolver

Thought some of you might enjoy a few pictures of my 1860's vintage Eli Whitney Navy model revolver. This is a Union Navy issue piece as witnessed by the anchor stamping on the barrel directly in front of the frame. These .36 caliber revolvers were nickel plated as a rust deterrent, bore and chambers are mirror bright indicating little to no use. Some Colt issue 51 Navy revolvers were actually tinned rather than nickel plated

Hi Jim,thanks this came out of the local area, Canadaicon had some 40,000 men served in the US civil war on both sides so its not uncommon to find them around here, one of the best civil war pieces I ever owned was a Spencer carbine with the name John Young carved into one side of the stock, on the other side was carved" Surrender of Lee". serial number I traced the gun to a New York volunteer regiment, traced Young to the same regiment through US military records where he mustered out with the rank of sergeant the units last engagement was the battle of Appomattox. Unfortunatel.y I sold it in a weak moment, it came out of Kitchener Ontario. I have met Brian through a mutual friend

    Whitney 36 cal revolver

When I was very small, my mother bought a Whitney revolver as a birthday gift for my father as my father had a small gun collection. She told me it cost $5.00 too

It is complete and serial numbered 10267 H.A., the serial range is very close to the 11thAttachment 80009Attachment 80010 Civil War Illinois Cavalry

Note the difference in the rear part of the loading lever and the cylinder pin between the two photos.

I have seen a few photos of the Whitney revolver converted to cartridge in older American Rifleman articles.

SRS has some Whitney serial numbers. also there is a smaller 31 cal Whitney revolver

Morning all, this was my example S/N 29644V, in pretty reasonable condition, but with most of its sight post knocked off.

I prepared these pics a few years back for inclusion in Dan Williams Whitney book, never used due to cut off deadlines unfortunately.

I made the mistake of selling it on to free up cash for other shooting projects..

At least you have pics now. There are so many that I didn't take pics of, not even analogue pics...
